THE GROWER

An interest in biodynamics and anthroposophy first took Marco Bertoldo to Switzerland, where he worked in farming and animal husbandry. Returning to Italy in 2015, he joined Giovanni Menti’s winery and developed his interest in natural winemaking.

In 2018, Marco and a group of friends, the barbaboyz, began restoring abandoned vineyards around Gambellara and making their own wines. The recovered plots are farmed biodynamically. Their mixed plantings include recognised grape varieties alongside local vines whose identity remains uncertain. Rather than erasing that diversity, the project makes it part of the wines’ connection to their place and the people caring for them.
