Gradoli, Lake Bolsena · Lazio · Italy
Andrea Occhipinti
Aleatico, Grechetto Rosso and Procanico express the volcanic soils of Gradoli, above Lake Bolsena.

THE GROWER
Andrea Occhipinti discovered Gradoli and its vineyards while studying agriculture at the University of Tuscia in Viterbo. The area became the subject of his degree thesis, and in 2004 he began his own winegrowing project on the northwestern shores of Lake Bolsena, around 450 metres above sea level.
His work focuses on preserving and developing the local varieties Aleatico, Grechetto Rosso and Procanico. Massal selection favours vines best adapted to the volcanic soils. Careful choices at harvest, gentle grape handling and attentive cellar work bring together local tradition and a willingness to explore new possibilities, with the lake and its climate shaping the wines.
