THE GROWER

Bakkanali was founded in Seggiano by Sebastian Nasello, formerly the winemaker at Podere Le Ripi, and Ugo Fabbri. Its name recalls the Roman Bacchanalia and the convivial tastings that inspired the project. The founders sought a mountain setting on Mount Amiata where quality viticulture could respond to a warming climate.

Their vineyards in Poggio Ferro include iron-rich soils, galestro and pietraforte. Biodynamic principles guide their farming. In the cellar, spontaneous fermentation and vessels such as amphorae and used wooden barrels support a restrained approach. Sangiovese is the main focus, with the aim of preserving the freshness and fruit identity associated with these elevated sites.
